You can make a lot of money on Twitter. There are various Twitter personal brands that are pulling in over $50K per month by plying their craft on the social media platform.

But there are things that you need to know before you make money on Twitter.

You can’t just expect to show up and make money just by being on the platform.

In this article, I will lay out all of the possible ways that you can make money on the famed Bird App.

All you need is a phone, access to the internet and something to sell.

That’s it.

If you’re here still scratching your head, then read on.

People sell a variety of products or services – or both! – on Twitter.

But how can this be done?

There are various ways you can turn your account into a side income or even to creating a lifestyle you never thought possible.

The sky’s the limit.

How to Make Money on Twitter: What to Sell

There are myriad items, products, services, and whatnot you can sell on Twitter.

The beauty of making money on Twitter is that provided you post valuable content, you have traffic sources on the platform advertisers can only dream of.

To gain a better understanding of what can be sold on Twitter, let’s segment them by pricing structure.

Low Ticket Products/Services ($0 – $100)

  • eBooks
  • Short Courses
  • Private Groups
  • Merch (T-shirts, hats, mugs, posters, etc.)
  • Physical Items (Supplements, Beauty Products, Health Products, etc.)
  • SaaS

Low Ticket Products/Services are a great way to start making money on Twitter. The main problem is that unless you have a subscription model, a way to generate frequent repeat buys, or constantly drive traffic to your products, you will always need to generate high sales volumes to make your money’s worth.

When I first started making money on Twitter, I ran into this issue by offering a low ticket info product. I initially made very handsome margins but after time they slowed down – and fast. You don’t want to run into the trap of devaluing your products by putting them on sale all the time to stoke urgency or FOMO to encourage a few extra sales.

Ideally, if you have a low ticket product or service to sell, you are employing it as a barrier to entry to your mailing list or a client list to whom you can upsell pricier services such as coaching or consulting.

Mid-Ticket Services/Products ($100-$1000)

  • eBooks
  • Video Courses
  • Lengthier Courses
  • Cohorts
  • Exclusive Private Groups
  • Physical Items (Supplements, Beauty Products, Health Products, etc.)
  • Consulting
  • B2C Services
  • Minor B2B Services

For the sake of this point, we will set the mid ticket price point between $100 and $1000 per sale.

This is a better way to scale your way to the mythical $10k/m online income status.

Offering mid ticket products or services is a better way to generate decent sales revenue without having to drive a ton of traffic to your offer.

But you will need to grow more account authority before you can enjoy a greater degree of success in this bracket.

It’s far easier to sell a $150 course if you’re a reputable personal brand posting average content over an anonymous personal brand (oxymoron, I know) that posts average content.

Moreover, if you’re in a B2C niche such as fitness or anything related to self-improvement, you will have an easier time convincing the average person to buy a $250/m coaching service over a $2.5k/m coaching service – businesses will, on the whole, have deeper pockets than the general population.

Also, if you can convince somebody to buy a mid-ticket product, an upsell to a high ticket service will be less challenging than convincing a low-ticket buyer to buy the same high ticket service.

High-Ticket Products/Services

  • Video Courses
  • Lengthier Courses
  • Cohorts
  • Consulting
  • B2B Services
  • Premium B2C Services

High-Ticket products and services are the Holy Grail of making money online.

You need relatively low sales volumes to make a good income from your offers.

But it can take a while until you reach these lofty heights – especially if your offer is B2C.

If you are adamant to sell a B2C high ticket offer, you might be met with a lot of disappointment in your early days.

We will go into further details with this point, but with all services, you will need to build trust through case studies, testimonials and social proof. Even with all of these, you might have dry periods with little interest from prospects.

You will need to know your target audience inside out before you can begin to market certain B2C offers. For example, you probably won’t enjoy much success trying to sell $1.5k/m fitness courses to college students, but marketing yourself to entrepreneurs or over-50s – demographics with more disposable income – would be a more viable choice.

High-Ticket offers marketed at businesses offering to make them more money or to burgeoning entrepreneurs by offering a refined skill set with the same goal of making them more money often enjoy a higher degree of success.

The former might be thrilled by a service such as consulting, SEO, copywriting, email/SMS marketing, web development, social media management, lead generation, etc, while the latter may wish to buy a course or coaching program on a certain skill that will help elevate them to the next level.

However, there are steps you would need to take before you can throw yourself into the deep end.

Build Trust as You Make Money on Twitter

Again, if you’re just starting out, it’s very hard to simply start selling a $2k/m skill if you have no account authority or trust.

Sure, you can start DMing hundreds of people, play the numbers game, and at least a few people will bite.

If you have a personal brand, you will probably receive daily messages from amateur marketers and email copywriters pitching their services.

More power to them.

But you need to show Twitter that you are good at your craft.

This means that you have to create valuable content.

Identify pain points within your niche then dismantle these issues plaguing consumers within your niche illustrated by case studies, testimonials and social proof alongside your value-adding content.

Rinse and repeat.

Over time, you will generate trust among your followers to the point where you can start to offer your service.

As demand grows for your service, you can increase the price as you, as a content creator, are in limited supply!

When you start, you may have to resort to networking and cold outreach to gain clients.

Networking with reputable accounts within your niche is a great way to gain account authority; cold outreach can help you gain clients so that you can begin to gain case studies and testimonials.

Remember: there’s no greater ad agency than an army of satisfied clients.

Networking & Cold DMs

This is a finer art to perfect before you can get the ball rolling. There are natural conversationalists and extroverts out there who won’t struggle with this particular point, but for introverts and those suffering from social anxiety might have a tougher time overcoming their obstacles.

Networking is one of the finest ways you can develop account authority.

Imagine what a shout out or known association with one of the top content creators within your niche can do for your personal brand?

Imagine what a stellar endorsement from a reputable content creator can do for your sales?

It is in your Direct Messages where relationships are made.

Deals. Collaborations. Agreements. Friendships. Bonds.

Cold DMs and networking are the two most overlooked aspects of growing your Twitter account.

You can have a following in the hundreds of thousands or even millions but that account will not have lived up to its full potential without exploiting the thousands of insightful and helpful minds on the platform.

Your Twitter experience and prominence isn’t merely quantified by your follower count; it is also qualified by the wealth of contacts you have within your network.

Now, there are various ways you can go about networking with people within your niche or interests.

But in order for people higher in the perceived social hierarchy – as is the common theme in this article – you have to provide something of value for them to notice.

Many people will suspect you to have an ulterior motive unless you offer value – and because of this might ignore you or try to politely wriggle out of having to talk to you.

If you offer something of value, there is a higher likelihood you will get noticed.

Affiliate Marketing

Let’s dive in with the easiest way to make money on Twitter.

You don’t need a skill, offer, or even a personal brand to make a few bucks online to supplement your income.

And in these challenging times, a few extra hundred dollars a month can make or break the finances of a lot of people.

Affiliate Marketing is by far the easiest way to make money on Twitter.

Some people have managed to turn this into a full-time income.

Most people who use Affiliate Marketing on Twitter aren’t flying private jets to lavish holiday destinations, but they can live comfortably. The best affiliate marketers on the platform can make quite a substantial income from their trade.

The process to making money on Twitter from Affiliate Marketing is simple:

  • Find a relevant product/service
  • Ask a reputable content creator to affiliate for their service
  • Promote that product/service to your followers
  • Profit

Now, there are a few caveats from what seems to be a very simple process.

You can’t expect to make thousands of dollars per month just by posting a simple affiliate link.

You need to give your reasons to click on the sales page. That means, you need to provide value and address a pain point in your tweets leading up to the call to action including your affiliate link.

You can drive traffic to your affiliate link through posting viral content, but you need to give those viewing your affiliate link a reason to click on the sales page.

But as we’ve mentioned, Affiliate Marketing on Twitter is a great way to supplement your income. Check out our full article on Affiliate Marketing on Twitter where we go into further detail as to how to get started.

Personal Brand

Creating a Personal Brand on Twitter is the best way to monetize your content on the platform.

But before you can start laughing your way to the bank, you need to have a marketable skill.

There are various skills to choose from:

  • Ghostwriting
  • Social Media Agency
  • Lead Generation
  • Graphic Design
  • Software Development
  • Web Designer
  • SaaS
  • Self-improvement
  • Fitness
  • Life Coaching
  • Sales Calls
  • Business Coaching
  • Financial Advisor
  • Copywriting
  • Much, much more

Just choose a marketable skill and run with it.

Create an offer – high ticket coaching, consulting, program, cohort, course, anything – and drive traffic to it.

For clarity’s sake, here are the high ticket services you can offer to make money on Twitter:

  • Coaching
  • Consulting
  • Cohorts
  • Courses

An account with 89 followers and an average of 1 like per 3 tweets will struggle to enjoy success and will need to grow their account following/authority before they can start raking in the cash.

There are various ways to grow on Twitter, but remember: are you growing your account or growing your business?

The best thing to do is to grow both simultaneously by providing potential followers with valuable content.

Check out our article on how to grow your Twitter following effectively.

Following on from providing valuable content in shorter form within the 280 character limit provided by Twitter, we recommend that you should promote a longer form lead magnet in the form of a free eBook or course solving a problem within your niche.

And no, just because it has been written to at length doesn’t mean you won’t have interest.

Think about the fitness niche… one of the most searched keywords pertains to fat loss. How many free eBooks on fat loss are there out there? There’s only one way to lose fat, but the piece of the pie within the industry is massive.

Just put pen to paper, produce your lead magnet and promote it every day.

As we will explain below, a mailing list is a more personal way to build trust among your followers.

If they’re willing to download or buy a product from you, they are also likely to buy an expensive coaching course you offer.

Your sales funnel to your more expensive services should look like this:

Tweet → Lead magnet → Low Ticket Info Product → Mid Ticket Service/Private Group → High Ticket Coaching/Consulting/Cohort

Once you have your chosen niche, you should tweet about it often with a goal to provide valuable content solving problems for people interested in your niche, interspersed with some tweets revealing some of your personality to your followers.

Much of the time, a niche is “saturated” and clients will choose your personal brand for who you are, rather than the awesomeness of your offer.

If they like you, the higher the chance they will choose your personal brand over others.

Just remember: likes do not equal cash. Raw growth on Twitter or monetization doesn’t have to be mutually exclusive. In fact, they often complement each other.

However, people will buy from you for you. Don’t sacrifice your authenticity for pure growth.

There are various accounts out there with massive followings that are either poorly monetized or have a low quality following.

If it is your goal to purely make money off the platform, don’t worry about focusing on raw growth – assuming your product, knowledge, content, etc., is good, the followers will come.

Worry about putting out the highest quality and most useful content first.

Combining high quality content with raw growth strategies will be the very best way to fully monetize your personal brand.

Draw as many impressions to your content as possible, then make your sales funnels as visible as possible to capitalize off the inbound traffic.

APIs

For the more tech-savvy individuals out there, you can run bots or accounts with posts fed on a loop to grow a following.

Better yet, these accounts boast ample potential for monetization.

Either by finding a gimmick such as philosophy, life, spirituality, religion, dating, etc., you can preload various tweets to post a quote or truism

Blogging

I have included blogging to this article because it is a way that you can write longer form content to reach more of your followers. The Twitter character limit can hamper your ability to express yourself effectively.

But a well-presented blog with a soft call to action linked to an offer of some sort can help take your personal brand to the stratosphere.

Like with Twitter, there are several ways a blog can be monetized, for example:

  • Info Products
  • Merch
  • High Ticket Coaching
  • Consulting
  • On-page advertisement
  • Lead Generation
  • Affiliate Marketing

The beauty of having a Twitter account is that you don’t have to wait years or spend hours in painstaking keyword research to your website to create a must-read blog.

Twitter – provided you already have a following – can expedite this process by several years.

Of course, you must be providing value to get high quality traffic.

Moreover, you can drive more traffic to offers you might have on your website than you would by tweeting out a link.

Growing a website off Twitter is a great way to diversify your traffic and to reach the widest audience possible.

At a minimum, a blog can act as a longer winded landing page containing your unwound thoughts and a place that provides valuable information in addition to your products/services.

Mailing List

Like with a blog, having a good mailing list can draw you nearer to your followers by providing lengthier value-adding content directly to their inbox so they never miss a post.

A lot of Twitter users only sporadically use the platform but scan their emails daily, giving you an opportunity to capitalize on their attention.

This is an opportunity for them to see your content and your offer on a regular basis while not having to be active on Twitter.

You will, however, need to grow your mailing list from Twitter – but this is easy to do:

  • Write a PDF solving a problem within your niche
  • Upload the PDF to Gumroad
  • Promote your Gumroad eBook wherever you can

That’s it.

Over time you will begin to collect dozens of email addresses of people you can approach daily with anecdotes, stories, case studies, and value-adding content to show off your nous within your niche.
